Nattravn ae a duo from Italy that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2018 album which was released by Death Prayer Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths and soundscapes start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody along with all of t he drum b eats also being programmed.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with a couple of tracks also adding in a brief use of clean playing as well as some blast beats and tremolo picking also being utilized when the music finally speeds up which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling, a couple of songs also add in a small amount of spoken word parts and flutes and the closing track is an instrumental.
Nattravn plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics have a concept to them covering an old man and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Nattravn are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Itinerarium animi per aerumnas" and " Separatio". 8 out of 10.
