Daemonheim are a duo from Germany that plays an atmospheric form of pagan black metal with elements of death metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Tidian" which will be released by Naturmacht Productions.
A thunder and rainstorm along with owl sounds start off the album before going into a clean, melodic and ambient direction along with melodic guitar leads which leads up to more fast black metal parts being mixed in along with blast beats, growls and screams and the band also mixes in some slow and mid paced sections and you can also hear traces of doom metal in some of the slower parts of the recording.
Both the clean and acoustic sections that are present on this recording bring a progressive feeling to the recording along with the guitar leads utilizing a great amount of talent and skill, while some of the really heavy sections show a great amount of death metal influences and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length, as the album progresses more raw black metal elements are added into the faster sections of the recording.
When the synths are brought in they enhance the atmosphere of the recording as well as bringing in elements of ambient music while the main focus is on the heavy and melodic sounding guitars and the songs are very diverse and all sound very different from each other while the band never strays too far away from its regular sound and some of the acoustic sections also start adding in traces of classical and folk music and towards the end the blast beats get more brutal and you can also hear a small amount of spoken word parts at times along with a melodic death metal sound that is closer to the Swedish side of the genre.
Daemonheim bring an original sound to the recording and showing they can be as fast, raw and brutal as most bands while also having a great amount of melody as well as having a lot of progressive and folk music elements in the softer and cleaner sections of their music, the production has a very raw, heavy and powerful sound while the lyrics are written in German and cover nature, old Pagan sagas and local history.
In my opinion Daemonheim are a very great sounding German black metal band with pagan and death metal elements and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nastrand" and "Tidian". 8/5 out of 10.
