Toluca are a band from Russia that plays an occult mixture of post black metal and screamo and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Memoria".
Acoustic guitars start off the album along with some clean and melodic post rock elements and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful and the music starts adding in more heavier distortion which leads up to a fast black metal direction along with grim, high pitched screams and they keep the acoustic guitars in certain sections of the recording as well as adding in traces of screamo and post hardcore along with a mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When t he album goes into other songs the music starts becoming a mixture of post black metal and screamo but having a more dark and occult approach to the genre and the black metal elements still have a very dark, heavy and raw edge to them at times and in some of the cleaner sections you can hear a good amount of dsbm style sounds along with a good amount of shoegaze elements and most of the tracks are very long and length and utilize both electric and acoustic guitars and there are also some melodic vocals and spoken word being used for a couple of seconds in a few of the tracks and you can hear a great amount of screamo being mixed in with t he black metal vocals.
Toluca bring an interesting sound to this recording which shows them taking the more occult, depressive and post forms of black metal and combining them with screamo to create their own sound along with a very dark and heavy production and all of the song titles are name after a Goetic demon.
In my opinion Toluca are a very great sounding mixture of occult, post black metal and screamo and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gaap" "Bune" and "Amon". 8 out of 10.
