Zeugen der Leere are a band from Germany that plays an atmospheric form of dark/black metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Seelenwanderer".
A very dark, atmospheric and ambient sound starts off the album along with the music getting more heavy and going into a slow atmospheric black metal direction along with grim vocals and screams and after the intro classical guitars are added into certain sections of the recording along with some violins and the music starts to find its sound with a slow and melodic approach to atmospheric black metal.
The drum programming on the album adds a militant feeling to the music and you can also hear a small amount of melodic vocals being added into certain sections of the recording, when the music speeds up, the album takes a rawer direction and the screams become more high pitched but the album mostly focuses on slow and mid paced parts with the music only getting fast in certain sections of the recording.
When we get more into the album the music starts getting a little bit more experimental adding guitar slides and acoustic guitars in certain sections of the recording while also remaining true to a dark and atmospheric black metal sound and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the vocals also start adding in deeper parts along with the screams and they also bring a death metal feeling to the recording, halfway through the recording the band brings in a cover of Erkryss's ''Forsaken Astronaut" and it is also the only track on the album that has an English title.
Spoken word parts and traces of electronic music start making there way onto some of the later tracks along with programmed blast beats and you can also hear some modern metal influences in some of the guitar riffing and every song has a very different sound to them while you can still tell that it is the same band.
Zeugen der Leere bring in a very interesting sound with their music focusing on a more slow and mid paced melodic black metal direction while also having its fast moments, the synths and violins enhance the epic and symphonic qualities of the music while the band also brings in a raw and experimental approach at times, the production brings a very powerful and epic sound to the recording while the lyrics are written in German and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Zeugen der Leere are a very great sounding atmospheric dark/black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Der Seelenwanderer" "Forsaken Astronaut" "Untergang" and "Canis majoris". 8/5 out of 10.
