Rahu are a duo from Finland that plays a very raw, atmospheric and old school form of black metal and this is a review of t heir 2012 album "The Quest For The Vajra Of Shadows" which will be re-issued by Ahdistuksen Aihio Productions.
A very dark, raw and fast black metal sound starts off the album along with powerful bass lines and melodies which leads up to some grim vocals and screams and the band also brings in a mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the band also brings in a good amount of atmosphere with their music.
When we get into the other tracks the band starts enhancing the atmospheric and melodic elements of the music and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length and they also bring in a mixture of mid paced and fast parts with their rawer elements really letting the early 90's black metal influence shine on this album, while the slow and mid paced parts mostly dominate the recording and the guitar leads always have a very melodic tone to them along with every track has a very different sound to them.
Rahu have a very different approach to Finnish black metal with this album mixing in the old school sound with more melody, atmospheric and epic structures along with having a very powerful sounding production and lyrics that cover Hindu and Vedic Mythology.
In my opinion Rahu are a very great sounding raw, melodic and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ordeal of X" and "The Serpent King". 8 out of 10.
