Sutekh Hexen are a band from California that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of raw black metal, drone and noise and this is a review of their 2014 ep "Become" which was released by Sentinent Ruin.
Ritualistic sounding drones start off the recording along with some heavy and distorted guitars and black metal screams and the guitar riffing is very fast and raw sounding and you can also hear a dark atmosphere in the background which starts taking over after a few minutes and also adds in elements of harsh noise which eventually start to mix in with the raw black metal elements of the recording while still having a very powerful presence in the song and the first track is very long and more than 15 minutes in length.
The second track starts off with a slow and evil sound before adding in some distorted high pitched black metal screams and traces of doom metal and later on you can hear melodic chanting and drones being added into the track with the alter eventually taking over for awhile and adding in a harsh noise feeling as well as keeping the black metal parts and this song is also another 15 minute long track
Sutekh Hexen have a very interesting sound with this recording taking the most raw and evil sounds of black metal and mixing them with doom, drone and harsh ritualistic noise to create a sound of their own along with a very dark and raw sounding production and lyrics that cover witchcraft, occultism and mysticism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sutekh Hexen and if you are a fan of raw black metal mixed with noise and drone, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Five Faces Of Decay". 8 out of 10.
