Sarcofago are a band from Brazil that has been featured before in this zine and with this album they got away from the more early black/war metal sound of the first album and went into a more black/death metal direction with this recording and this is a review of their 1989 album "Rotting" which will be re-issued in 2014 by Greyhaze Records.
Sex noises start off the album along with demonic vocals and after the intro the music goes into a more raw black/death metal direction along with some brutal blast beats before adding in early black/death vocals along with some melody and the band also brings in a mixture of slow and fast parts and the bass guitars bring a very powerful sound to the recording along with some dark death metal solos.
Clean sections are added into certain sections of the recording along with the songs being more long, epic and slow than the tracks on the first album and you can also hear a small amount of synths in the background on some of the track while the fast and raw guitar riffing is still a huge part of this recording.
On the 4th track the band starts to mix in some parts that marked the beginning of doom/death metal while also mixing it in with their black metal sound and the fast parts really show what was to come later with the second wave and they also add melody in certain sections when it is needed.
With this album Sarcofago added more thrash, doom and death metal influences in their raw black metal sound and showed a lot of progress as musicians with this recording along with a raw and primitive sounding production and lyrics that cover alcohol, metal, death, dying, darkness and anti christian themes, and this version has a more re-mastered feeling than the raw sound my cassette version had in 91 which I still have to this day.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording form Sarcofago, long time fans may alread own this recording but if you are a younger black/death metal fan, you should check out this album> RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Alcoholic Coma" and "Nightmare". 8/5 out of 10.
