Signalfeide are a duo with members from both Norway and U.S.A that has been featured before in this zine, while their first recording was a more lo-fi black metal ep, their new work is more in the vein of dark ambient and this is a review of their 2014 ep "Midnight Sun" which was released by Floodgate Moods Productions.
A very dark, atmospheric and ambient sound starts off the 22 minute long piece and the synths bring a variety of many different types of sound to the track and you can also hear some programmed drum beats being utilized in the background and after a few minutes vocals are added into certain sections of the track and at time s you can also hear traces of dungeon synth in the music which also enhances the melancholic atmosphere this song creates while also bringing in other styles of ambient music and after 15 minutes acoustic guitars make their way into the music.
Signalfeide show a stylistic change with this release staying away from the black metal elements of the first release and focusing on a more dark and melancholic ambient sound with their new release along with a very powerful sounding production.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding recording from Signalfeide and while some of the more close minded black metal fans might not enjoy this release, I see this ep however appealing to fans of ambient music and the more open minded fans of black metal. 8 out of 10.
