Magan/Nathicana/Sempiternal Productions/2001 CD Review

Magan are a band from Mexico that plays a very atmospheric form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2002 album "Nathicana" which was released Sempiternal Productions.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in, while the keyboards have a very dark, epic and atmospheric sound, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they sound very powerful.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very raw, primitive and evil sounding will the lead guitars are very distorted, raw and primitive sounding black metal guitar leads and solos as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to add another dark dimension to the music.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some spoken word ritualistic passages being thrown in at times as well as the occasional growl, while the lyrics cover H.P Lovecraft and the Necronomicon, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion Magan are a very good atmospheric occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Dreamland Of Natchicana" and "The Steel Of My Sword". RECOMMENDED BUY.
