Akrotheism are a band from Greece that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording goes into more of an experimental style of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "The Law Of Seven Deaths" which will be released in March by Osmose Productions.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the songs also bring in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When clean vocals are utilized they give the music more of an avant garde feeling as well as the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style.
At times the music gets very experimental without ever losing the aggression or heaviness that is a very huge parts of the bands musical style. Some of the guitar riffing and leads also bring dissonant style structures onto the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them
As the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts can also be heard before returning back to a heavier direction. Later songs also introduce acoustic guitars, wind instruments, percussion's and ambience which gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling and the tracks on this recording are very different from the previous recording while still capturing the aggression of past releases. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover Occultism, Esotericism, Misanthropy and Human Decadence themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Akrotheism and if you are a fan of experimental and occult black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Typhonian Serpents" "Virtue of Satyr" and "En". 8 out of 10.
