Goatkraft are a band from Norway that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw mixture of war, black and death metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Sulphorous Northern Bestiality" which will be released in March by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very distorted, evil and demonic sounding intro starts off the album before going into a more heavy and brutal direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with a great amount of war metal elements.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very chaotic style while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also capturing the more bestial side of death metal at times.
A lot of the music is very heavily influenced by the 90's era while still being very modern at the same time. Some of the interludes before the songs also gives the music more of a ritualistic and occult feeling along with all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the music also remains true to the raw and brutal war metal style that was presented on their previous recording. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover occultism, blasphemy, death, hate and destruction themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Giatkraft and if you are a fan of war metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hordes Of Damnation" Bestial Desecration" and "Blasphemous Sulphur Oppression". 8/5 out of 10.
