Triste Terre are a band from France that plays an atmospheric form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Grand Oeuvre" which will be released in March by Les Acteurs de I'Ombre Productions.
Clean playing starts off the album along with some classical music inspired elements before going into a heavier direction.. A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length as well as the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style and synths also mix in with the heavier sections of the music at times.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while clean vocals are also used at times. When the music speeds up a great mount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
A great amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing and as the album progresses clean playing also makes a return in certain sections of the recording. Some of the guitar leads also add in a touch of post black metal while the riffs are more rooted in the more traditional style of the genre.
As the album progresses a brief use of death metal growls can also be heard while some of the clean vocals also brings back some of the 90's avant garde black metal style. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in French and cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion Trisete Terre are a very great sounding atmospheric occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Corps glorieux" and "Tribut solennel". 8 out of 10.
