Dwell In Solitude are a duo from Italy that plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Doomed To Live Without A Reason".
Acoustic guitars start off the ep before going into more of a heavier and atmospheric musical direction while also introducing depressive black metal screams onto the recording. All of the tracks are very long and epic in length while synths are also added into some parts of the music.
All of the drum beats are programmed while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic post rock style while also showing some influences of shoegaze. At times the music also gets very melancholic sounding.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, Rain and thunder sounds can also be heard briefly and as the ep progresses a brief use of spoken word samples can also be heard. The production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover isolation and alienation themes.
In my opinion Dwell In Solitude are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive post black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Endless Gray Sky" and "Wounds". 8 out of 10.
