The Rite are an international duo with members from Italy and Denmark that plays a morbid mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "The Brocken Fires" which will be released in August by Iron Bonehead Productions.
Rain, thunder and wind sounds start of the ep along with some ritualistic spoken word parts a few seconds later before going into a heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Elements of doom metal can be heard in the slower sections of the songs while the music has a great amount of 80's and 90's influences but sounding modern at the same time. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic style and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats van be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The riffs also use a decent amount of dark sounding melodies along with one of the tracks being very long and epic in length, keyboards can also be heard briefly and they close the ep with a cover of Goatlord's "Acid Orgy". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism themes.
In my opinion The Rite are a very great sounding morbid mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Pact With Hell" and "Heed the Devil's Call". 8/5 out of 10.
