Sleeping Ancient are a band from Houston, Texas that plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "There is No Truth But Death" which will be released in September by Sleeping Giant Records.
Synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic post metal style. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling.
Vocals are done in more of an aggressive shouting style as well a s adding in a small amount of high pitched screams at times while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as the music also having its atmospheric moments and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and one of the later tracks is an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover endless, existential dread and depressive, melancholic grave worship themes.
In my opinion Sleeping Ancient is a very great sounding atmospheric post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out t his album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Path Emerges" and "Writhing In The City Of Dregs". 8 out of 10.
