Eldenhor are a duo from Russia that plays an old school form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 1998 ep "Realm Of Blazing Night" which was re-issued by Earth And Sky Productions.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep along with some grim sounding black metal screams a few seconds later. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while one of the tracks is also very long and epic in length. One of the songs also introduces synths into the music along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized as well as some of the riffing also adding in some melody and the ep closes with 3 instrumentals that also add in some touches of ambient and trip hop.
Eldenhor played a style of pagan black metal that was very common in the mid 90's era as well as adding in some originality to the instrumental tracks. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Nordic mythology, Paganism, Anti Christianity, Space and Nature themes.
In my opinion Eldenhoor are a very great sounding pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of t his musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Moonlight..." and "Siberian Silence". 8 out of 10.
