Rübezahl are a band from Alaska that plays a barbaric form of pagan metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 album "Remnants Of Grief & Glory".
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to t hem and the vocals are done in a deep growling style.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A lot of the music is also very heavily rooted in the mid 90's to early 2000's era along with the solos and leads also being done in a very epic yet melodic style when they are utilized.
Some of the tracks are also long and epic in length along with the music also adding in a great amount of Eastern European influences as well as all of the songs also sticking to a heavier direction, as the album progresses a brief use of grim screams can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Paganism, Mythology, Battles and War themes.
In my opinion Rübezahl are a very great sounding barbaric pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Alas Phoenician, Despair" "Meditations Of A Tyrant" "Bloodlines Of Scorched Earth" and "Anvil of The East". 8 out of 10.
