Soreeyes is a solo project from Toledo, Ohio that plays a progressive mixture of blackgaze and post black metal with some touches of post hardcore and this is a review of her 2021 album "Sleep Waves" which will be released in October by Morbid And Miserable Records.
Melodic riffing starts off the album while all of t he dream beats are also programmed along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. The music also adds in a great amount of post rock elements as well a s the vocals being mostly angry sounding black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic shoegaze style while clear vocals can also be heard at times. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody as well as some elements of post hardcore also being added into the mid tempo sections of the music.
When the music finally speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling as well as most of the music sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction and the recording also closes with an instrumental. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover self-harm, addiction, abuse and death themes.
In my opinion Soreeyes is a very great sounding mixture of blackgaze and post black metal with some touches of post hardcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Low" and "Sleep Waves". 8 out of 10.
