Sepulchre By The Sea are a solo project form the United Kingdom that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 ep "Ratiocination" which will be released in October.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the ep before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also add in a great amount of melody while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Elements of post metal are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with the clean playing and acoustic guitars also adding in touches of folk music.
Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with some influences of shoegaze also being utilized at times as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, some of the growls and shouts also show an influence of death metal and hardcore when they are utilized and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are based upon the writings of Edgar Allan Poe.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sepulchre By The Sea and if you are a fan of atmospheric post black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Ghost of The Departed". 8 out of 10.
