Odhin Runes are a solo project from Argentina that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw, avnat garde and symphonic form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 album "Novus Thesis Deus".
Epic soundscapes start off the album along with some tribal style beats a few seconds later while synths can also be heard in some parts of the album. The heavier sections of t he songs also add in more of a lo-fi atmosphere as well as the vocals also being mostly high pitched black metal screams.
At times the music also gets very symphonic and avant garde sounding while deep growls can also be heard at times. When spoken word parts are utilized they also add in more of a ritualistic atmosphere and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Clean playing can also be heard in some parts of the album as well as some of the riffing also adding in a small amount of melody and as the recording progresses a brief use of whispered voices can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Egyptian Spells and the writings of E.A Wallis Budge.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Odhin Runes and if you are a fan of r aw, avant garde and symphonic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Soul's Rise Into Daylight" "Balance Of Judgement And The Great Seer" and "Emerald Talisman". 8 out of 10.
