Owl Cave are a solo project from France that plays an experimental and ambient form of black metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "Broken Speech" .
Spoken word parts start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the only song that is present on the recording is over 43 minutes in length. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the faster sections of the track also adding in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while most of the music is also instrumental. The song is also divided into 6 different sections along with the music also having its experimental moments and noises can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
The music also has its avant garde moments along with the riffs also adding in some dissonant sections. The slower sections of the song also adds in the heaviness of sludge meta as well as some elements of ambient and martial also being utilized at times when synths are finally introduced in the music while the production also sounds very dark.
In my opinion Owl Cave are a very great sounding experimental and ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. 8 out of 10.
