Mercy's Dirge are a band from Romania that plays a very raw and old school mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Live, Raw & Relentless" which was re-issued in 2019 by Loud Rage Music.
A very fast and raw black metal sound starts off the album along with the vocals being done in more of a death metal style before evolving into grim screams. Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era while some of the tracks are long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while some of the riffing shows an influence of thrash and first wave black metal as well as one track also introducing spoken word parts onto the recording.
When guitar solos and leads are added into the music they are done in a very old school style while the music sounds like it could of easily been recorded and released 30 years ago as well as one song also introducing clean playing into the album and as the album progresses the riffs start utilizing more melody and one track also adds in a brief use of clean vocals and at times the vocals also adapt more of an 80's style. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion Mercy's Dirge are a very great sounding raw and old school mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Remains Of Posterity" "Another Hell" "Groovin Terror" and "Senseless Agony". 8 out of 10.
