Slovenia's duo Snogg have returned with a new recording which continues the experimental black metal style of previous releases and this is a review of their self released 2019 album "Chhimmamasta" which will be released in June.
Spoken word parts start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is used during the faster sections of the songs it gives the music more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also getting very experimental and avant garde sounding at times.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style. Spoken word parts and clean vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics are a concept album covering the Hindu Goddess Chhimmamasta along with some comparisons from other religions and mythologies.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Snogg and if you are a fan of experimental black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Stream Of Blood" and "Fear Beyond Death". 8 out of 10.
