Laang are a solo project from Taiwan that plays a musical style he describes as being 'terror black metal' and this is a review of his 2018 album "Haiyang" which was released by Talheim Records.
Atmospheric soundscapes start off the album along with some ambient style synths before going into a heavier direction while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style while some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the music more of a raw feeling while the vocals are done in more of a shouting black metal style which also gives the songs more of a misanthropic atmosphere. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Synths also mix in with the heavier section of the music at times adding in soem s ymphonic touches along with some clean vocals also being utilized briefly. A couple of the tracks are more ambient orientated instrumentals while some of the heavier riffing also adds in some melodies at times and as the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics are written in Taiwanese and cover terror, desolation, emptiness and inhuman madness.
In my opinion Laang are a very great sounding terror black metal solo project and if you are looking for something that is very different, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shenyuan" "Yan" and "Zidan King". 8 out of 10.
