Yaldabaoth are a duo from Brazil that has been featured before in this zine plays a Gnostic themed form of occult black metal and this is a review of their self released 2019 album "O Mito das Duas Arvores[Episodio II]".
Field Recordings start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while synths can also be heard in some parts of the music. All of the tracks are very long and epic in length and during the faster sections of the songs a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences. Deep growls are also added into some parts of the recording along with the songs also adding in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some tracks also add in a small amount of clean playing and acoustic guitars, all of the riffing is also done with all power chords and ritualistic spoken word parts can be heard briefly on the closing track.
On this recording Yaldobaoth expands on their Gnostic themed occult black metal style buy adding in more epic structures while also remaining true to the sound that was established on the first release. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Portuguese and cover Sophia, Gnosticism, Gematria, the Demiurge, Goetia, Qlipthoth and Demonology themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Yaldabaoth and if you are a fan of occult black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gematria I" and "Goetia II". 8/5 out of 10.
