Norway's Uburen have returned with a new recording which continues the viking style of black metal from previous releases and this is a review of their self released 2019 album "And The Mountains Weep".
Battle sounds start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with some spoken word parts also being used briefly.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the tremolo picking riffs also gives the songs more of a raw feeling when they are utilized. As the album progresses the riffs also start utilizing a small amount of melody as well as the guitar leads also being done in a melodic style.
Most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction except for one track where the music also speeds up briefly and introduces blast beats onto the recording. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Vikings and Norse Mythology along with one song being written in Norwegian and another track attacking Islam.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Uburen and if you are a fan of viking black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Remembrance" "Fredlaus" "Valkyri" and "Into The Void". 8 out of 10.
