Abigail Williams are a band from Olympia, Washington that has been around for a few years and started out as a melodic blackened deathcore band in the beginning before evolving more into a symphonic style of black metal over the years while the newer music shows more of an atmospheric, melodic, raw and post style of black metal these days and this is a review of their 2015 album "The Accuser" which will be released on October 30th by Candlelight Records.
Distorted reverb starts off the album before going into more of a fast and raw black metal direction that also utilizes a great amount of blast beats and you can hear a great amount of melodic guitar leads throughout the recording and the vocals are high pitched screams and some of the riffs also bring in melodies.
Tortured vocals can be heard at times and you can also hear experimental and avant garde elements in the music at times and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while also getting more atmospheric as the album progresses and there are also a few tracks that are very long and epic in length and there are also some tracks that include members from Lord Mantis, Wolves In The throne Room, Wolvhammer and Krieg and on the last track a small amount of clean playing and melodic vocals can be heard.
Abigail Williams shows another change in musical style this time around creating a very raw, melodic and atmospheric black metal album that also has a touch of the post side of the genre which also makes the album sound more modern, the production sounds very dark yet heavy and powerful at the same time while the lyrics cover Occultism and Witch Burning themes.
In my opinion this is another very great sounding album from Abigail Williams and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Path Of Broken Glass" "Godhead" and "Lost Communion". 8 out of 10.
