Maieutiste are a band from France that plays a progressive mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their self titled 2015 album which was released by /Les Acteurs de l' Ombre Productions.
A very dark, melodic sound starts off the album along with some classical guitars and you can hear elements of doom metal and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction along with some blast beats and high pitched screams and you can also hear a great amount of melody in the bands musical style along with some traces of avant garde music.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs are very long and epic in length and clean singing can be heard in certain sections of the recording along with spoken word parts can be heard at times and some of the fast parts bring in more of a raw style of black metal.
When solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic musical direction and some of the tracks bring in synths and elements of ambient which also gives the music more atmosphere along with some melodic chanting and when acoustic guitars are utilized they give the music more of a progressive feeling and some of the heavy parts also add in death metal growls and elements of thrash while some of the calmer sections add in a touch of folk and jazz.
Maieutiste creates a recording that has its roots mostly in raw and melodic black metal and also mixes in elements of doom and death metal in the heavier parts while the slower sections bring in traces of folk, jazz and progressive music that also makes the album sound very original, the production sounds very dark yet powerful at the same time while the lyrics cover philosophical themes.
In my opinion Maieutiste are a very great sounding progressive mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In The Mirror" "Absolution" "Death To Free Thinkers" and "Death To Socrates". 8 out of 10.
