Mire Of Despondency are a solo project from the United States that plays a very dark and depressive form of ambient black metal and this is a review of her self released 2015 album "Sorrow Is A Void".
Dark and tragic sounding keyboards start off the album along with some samples from the 1981 film "Evil Dead" a few seconds later and after the intro the music starts going into more of a raw and depressive black metal direction along with some grim yet high pitched screams and classical guitars can be heard in certain sections of the recording.
At times the music can be very atmospheric and when solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic musical direction and the vocals also use a great amount of whispers along with a small amount of spoken word parts and the keyboards also add in a great amount of ambient elements along with a few instrumental tracks and the music sticks mostly to either a slow or mid paced musical direction while also bringing in tremolo picking in some parts of the songs and the last track brings in a small amount of spoken word parts.
Mire Of Despondency plays a style of black metal on this recording that is very dark, depressive and atmospheric and also mixes in a great amount of ambient style keyboards to create the musical sound that is present on the recording, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Mire Of Despondency are a very great sounding depressive, ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "My Cold Embrace" "Lamentations Of A Moonlit Death" and "Cold Autumnal Winds". 8 out of 10.
