Luctus are a band from Lithuania that plays a raw mixture of black and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Rysys' which was released by Inferna Profundus Records.
A very fast and raw black metal sound starts off the album along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful as well as a good amount of blast beats and a few seconds later deep yet grim scrams and melodic guitar leads start becoming a very huge part of the recording and the vocals also get high pitched at times.
Elements of war metal can be heard at times and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, kid paced and fast parts along with some thrash and crust influences being utilized at times and when synths are utilized they give the music more of an atmospheric feeling and some of the riffs also add in melodies into certain parts of the tracks.
Traces of death metal in some of the heavier riffing along with some growls being utilized at times that also give the music more of a demonic touch and a great portion of the songs are very long and epic in length while on a later track the vocals almost get melodic while also sticking to the grim atmosphere of the genre and as the album progresses clean playing as well as spoken word samples can be heard briefly along with one song using melodic and ritualistic chants.
Luctus plays a musical style that takes a very raw and melodic black metal style and mixes it with thrash and a touch of war, crust and death metal to create a very heavy sounding recording, the production sounds very raw yet powerful at the same time while the lyrics are written in their native tongue and cover war and patriotism themes.
In my opinion Luctus are a very great sounding raw mixture of black and thrash metal and if you are a fan of this musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "K.B.MB" "Bedvasiai" and "Kazker Kitur". 8 out of 10.
