This is a review of a split album between Vietnam's Elcrosr and Australia's Vixenta which will b e self released in September an we will start off the review with Elcrost a band that plays a very melodic and atmospheric form of post black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some atmospheric soundscapes and acoustic guitars along with some angry sounding spoken word parts a few seconds later. Elements of post rock can also be hard at times while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style when the music goes into a heavier direction.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them, clean vocals can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover European Folklore, Unrequited Love, Loss and Death themes.
In my opinion Elcrost are a very great sounding atmospheric and melodic post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Hunters of Dawn & Eventide".
Next is is Vixenta who return with an atmospheric mixture of post black metal and blackgaze.
Their side of the split starts out with dark yet heavy riffing while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with some clean playing and acoustic guitars also adding in touches of post rock then they are utilized.
Synths can also be heard at times along with the music also having its atmospheric moments as well as the music also adding in elements of shoegaze. Most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction, melodies are also added into some of the riffing, whispers can also be heard briefly and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover loneliness, isolation, reality and hate themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vixenta and if you are a fan of atmospheric post black metal and blackgaze, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Sorrowful Screams of A Thousand Wicked Souls".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric and post black metal. 8 out of 10.
