This is a review of an older recording from Greece's Rotting Christ which shows 2 studio tracks going for more of a gothic black metal style and live tracks of their earlier material and the ep was released in 1999 and called "Der Perfekte Traum" which will be re-issued in September, 2021 by VinylStore.Gr.
Melodic guitar solos and leads start off the ep while the keyboards also give the songs more of an atmospheric feeling. Vocals bring in a mixture of spoken word parts that add in more of a goth rock touch and high pitched black metal screams as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
The riffs also add in a great amount of melody while whispered vocals can also be heard briefly. A couple of the live tracks are also long and epic in length along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats as well as most of the music also sticking to more of a slow or mid tempo direction.
On this recording Rotting Christ went for more of a melodic and gothic style of black metal which was different from the more traditional Hellenic style of their earlier releases. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, poetic and occult themes.
In my opinion this was another great sounding recording from Rotting Christ and if you are a fan of the mid 90's era of the b and, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Moonlight" and "King Of A Stellar War". 8 out of 10.
