Fiat Nox are a band from Germany that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "In Contemptuous Defiance" which will be released in October by Personal Records.
Dark sounding synths and chants start off the ep before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. All of the instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the songs also adding in a great amount of 90's influences as well as some back up shouts also being utilized at times and spoken word parts are also added on the closing track.
Fiat Nox plays a style of black metal that is very raw, aggressive, old school and melodic sounding. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes along with one song being written in German.
In my opinion Fiat Nox are a very great sounding melodic and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Zealotry Of Ruin" and "Those Shunned Hills". 8 out of 10.
