Australia's duo Vixenta have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of ambient, atmospheric, depressive, post black metal and shoegaze and this is a review of their 2021 album "Polarity" which was released as a joint effort between Flowing Downward and Avantgarde Music.
Melodic riffing starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals a re mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When clean playing is utilized it also introduces elements of post rock onto the recording as well as some touches of shoegaze also being utilized at times.
The music also has its atmospheric moments along with a couple of the songs also being very long and epic in length. Ambient style keyboards can also be heard in some parts of the recording as well as a couple of later songs also introducing acoustic guitars into the music and as the album progresses a brief use of clean vocals and spoken word parts can also be heard and the closing track is also an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover loneliness, isolation, hate and reality themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Vixenta and if you are a fan of atmospheric and post depressive black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Dream In Darkness" "Wicked Flame" and "Fall of the Divine". 8 out of 10.
