Ichor are a band from Australia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "The Black Raven" which will be released in September by Seance Records.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with one track also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts along with the music also having its melancholic moments.
Synths can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the music also mixes in a lot of 90's influences but with a more modern production. A couple of the tracks also introduces clean playing onto the album along with the songs also adding in a good amount of atmospheric touches as well as some whispered vocals also being added into certain sections of the album and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
On this recording Ichor goes for more of a mid tempo, atmospheric and old school style of Paganism. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Dark Slavic magick, Witchcraft and Folklore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ichor and if you are a fan of atmospheric and old school pagan black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Veles is here" and "Black Raven". 8 out of 10.
