Fustilarian are a solo project from Portugal that plays a very melodic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "All This Promiscuous Decadence" which will be released in September by Amor Fati Productions.
Dark sounding synths start off the album while clean playing can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and when t he music speeds up a decent amount of blast b eats can be heard.
Melodies are also added into a lot of the guitar riffing while the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The songs also mix in a great amount of influences form the mid 90's to early 2000's era along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic direction along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as one song also introducing spoken word parts onto the album, clean playing and synths also returns on some of the later songs. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover human decay, the unnatural world and the decadence of urban dysphoria.
In my opinion Fustilarian are a very great sounding melodic and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Reversed Ascension" "Deceived In Ravenous Perversion" and "The Vacant Dispirit". 8 out of 10.
