1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Hail and first of all thanks for the interview opportunity! Dodskold was formed late in 2020, one might say by chance! Two members (M and L) of what now is Dodskold were just sharing some written material and decided to start this as a side project and see what happens. Later on T was recruited on vocals and recording started soon after with some demo versions of the songs. Material was shown to Pesttanz Klangschmiede who already had contact with M before with previous releases from another band, and it was decided that the debut Dodskold album would be released through Pesttanz.
2.So far you have released an album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?
We wanted the sound to be as raw and as cold as possible, but still with a modern production. Dodskold is very much inspired by the early years of Black Metal, and while of course not trying to copy any other artists, the inspiration I think is still heard throughout the songs. The musical style is very emotional and it is a cold, melancholic sound that takes the listener to a desolate soundscape of misery, anguish and coldness.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
Lyrically the songs go hand in hand with the music. The writer is emanating forth desparate emotions of solitude, abandonement, and desolation, alongside a couple of tracks which are inspired by a reknown author of a particular legendary book(s). Those who know, know. We shall leave it up to the listeners to decipher which songs they are and what they are about.
4.Most of the band members have also been involved with black metal over the years, how does this band differ from the stuff you have released with previous groups?
It differs completely. All of us are involved in other bands, for many years now. The thing is, when we wrote this material, they were intended for our other bands, but the style was way to different and did not fit the style of those bands. Thus was born Dodskold.
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dodskold'?
The name itself means Deathly Cold, or the Coldness of Death, and here I mention Death with the capital D, for those who understand.
6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?
The artwork was done by M. and the front cover is actually a photo that M took which happens to be just a few kilometers outside of this residence. The artwork also goes hand in hand with everything that Dodskold represents. The thought behind the artwork is that it represents all our music into one picture, an image of desolation and abandonment, loneliness and solitude.
7.While some of the band members are veterans very little is known about the group, do you prefer to keep a lower profile?
Yes we decided to keep a low profile on who the members are, for now anyway. There are a few actually know who we are of course but Dodskold is not about who the members are, but it is all about the music we do and how it affects the listeners. It is irrelevant at the end of the day who we are.
8.So far the band has worked with 'Pesttanz Klangschmiede' and 'War productions', do you feel these labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?
Yes as you mentioned the album was released with two different labels. Pesstanz Klangschmiede who released the album on Vinyl and War Productions who released it on tape. We are all grateful to have had such support from these 2 labels who took our interest at heart and helped us release this album. We shall hopefully work with them again in the future!
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
We must say, that we were not expecting this kind of reaction from the listeners. The album got way larger than we thought it would actually, so suddenly Dodskold took a turn to be a more serious band, other than just a side project. It was totally unexpected but a reaction which was most welcome. Very glad that our listeners managed to feel the songs the way we felt about them as well. Lots of people wrote to us privately as well and expressed their thoughts to us and how our music affected them in a positive way through our desolate passages! It is quite ironic but that is the way it is!
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
It is hard to say where we shall head on in the future but we have already some plans on the table now anyway. New music has actually also started to be written, so our listeners can surely expect another release in the future.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
There are way to many good bands out there that inspire our music, but as said we dont want to copy these other artists, but we want to create our own sound at the end of the day. Inspiration and influence shall of course always be there whether one likes it or not, but Dodskold shall strive to always have its own sound. A sound that has gone down very well with our listeners and fans now, and a sound that we shall continue to keep for future releases.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
We would like to thank you again for this interview and show appreciation to all of you lost souls who showed their support to us from birth of this band. Surely all this positive feedback gave us the drive to decide that Dodskold shall continue through its path of desolation, down to the black abyss of the Nothingness.
