Gnosis are a band from Florida that has been featured before in this zine an d plays an occult mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Omens From The Dead Realm" which will be released in August by Nuclear War Now! Productions.
A very dark and heavy Greek influenced sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black emtal screams that are also done in more of a deeper style and the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of blast beats.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's style while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also being done in a v ery old school style.
When spoken word parts are utilized they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling along with the music also adding in a decent amount of death metal elements. Melodic chants can also be heard briefly as well as some synths also being utilized at times as well as some of the tracks also being long and epic in length, one of the songs also introduces acoustic guitars and ethnic style instruments onto the recording. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover Sumerian Magick, Occultism and the writings of H.P Lovecraft.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gnosis and if you are a fan of occult black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Conjuration Of The Nemesis" "The Eleventh Step, The Gate Unknown" and "Watcher Of A Faceless Abyss". 8 out of 10.
