Iskalde Morket are a solo project from the United Kingdom that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a very technical, progressive and dissonant form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 ep "Punctuated By The Screams Of Dying Animals".
Melodic yet dissonant sounding guitar solos and leads start off the ep while atmospheric sounding synths can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
At times the music also gets very technical and progressive sounding while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a lot of melody.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also having its symphonic moments. Spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of songs as well some of the riffing also showing an influence of death metal. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover nature and dystopian themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Iskalde Morket and if you are a fan of technical, progressive and dissonant black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Subhuman labyrinths" and "Spectres Of Pripyat". 8 out of 10.
