This is a review of a ep between Pisswitch and France's St. Barthelemy's Temple called "Pisswitch/The Cold Mouth Of The Earth" which was released in 2021 by babylon Doom Cult Records and we will start off the review with Pisswitch a band from an unknown area that plays a mixture of raw black and psychedelic doom metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very slow doom metal sound while all of the musical instruments also have a v ery powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with some dark sounding melodies also being added into some of the guitar riffing and psychedelic soundscapes are also utilized at times, a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and all of the music sticks to a slower direction, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style. The production sounds very dark and raw and the lyrics cover dark and blasphemous themes.
In my opinion Pisswitch are a very great sounding raw and psychedelic mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Black That Now Shrouds".
Next up is St. Barthelemy's Temple a band that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a raw mixture of black and d oom metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some distorted amp noises before going into a heavier doom metal direction. Vocals are done in a very deep style which shows a touch of death metal while high pitched yet grim sounding black metal screams are also utilized quite a bit throughout their side of the recording.
Some of the riffing also adds in the heaviness of sludge metal while dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the riffs. All of the tracks are long and epic in length along with the tremolo picking also giving the music more of a raw feeling when it is utilized as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them, when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard and touches of post black metal can also be heard at times. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism and Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from St. Barthelemy's Temple and if you are a fan of black and doom metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "To The Baneful Oblivion".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of black and doom metal. 8 out of 10.
