Sea Mosquito are a duo from the United Kingdom that plays an unorthodox and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Fire, Magic & Venom" which will b e released in July by Onism Productions.
Dark soundscapes along with some clean playing and drum beats start off the ep while the only track that is presented on the recording is over 22 minutes in length. Atmospheric elements are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
Throat singing can also be heard briefly while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams. When spoken word parts are utilized briefly they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling along with some dark sounding melodies also being added into some of the guitar riffing.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beatys can be heard which also gives the song more of a raw feeling along with the vocals also getting very deep and angry sounding at times as well as the solos and leads being done in a very dark yet melodic style when they are utilized, saxophones can also be heard briefly and clean vocals can also be heard towards the end. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Darkness and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Sea Mosquito are a very great sounding unorthodox and atmospheric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. 8 out of 10.
