Phraxathon are a solo project from Spain that plays an aggressive mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of his self released 2020 album "The Path Beyond The Cycle Of Birth And Death".
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with some atmospheric sounds and melodic riffing. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and death metal growls.
The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music also shows an influence of the Swedish style at times. Some of the riffing also shows an influence of thrash metal along with one track also introducing clean playing onto the recording as well as one song also adding in a brief use of clear vocals, the music also adds in a good balance between modern and old school elements and as the recording progresses a brief use of synths and spoken word parts can also be heard.
Phraxathon plays a musical style that takes a very fast, aggressive and melodic style of black metal and mixes it with death metal to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Internal Philosophy themes.
In my opinion Phraxathan are a very great sounding aggressive mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Path Beyond The Cycle Of Birth And Death" "Follow The Black Bird" and "You'll Never Be Here". 8 out of 10.
