Aralus are a solo project from Italy that plays a mixture of blackgaze and post black metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 ep "There Is A Blurry Light Against The Twisted Branches".
Acoustic guitars start off the ep while the cleaner sections also bring in elements of post rock before going into a heavier direction. Atmospheric sounding synths can also be heard at times along with the rtiffs also adding in a great amount of melody and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Touches of shoegaze can also b e heard in some parts of the recording while the music also has its experimental and progressive moments. All of the drum beats are also programmed along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams that are mixed down in the mix when they are utilized and most of the track sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
When the music finally speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which gives the song more of a raw feeling along with the closing track also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Aralus is a very great sounding mixture of blackgaze and post black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "We Are the Dream Of Another Dreamers" and "Scarlet Leaves Painted By Forgotten Effigies". 8 out of 10.
