Kentucky's duo Brood In Black have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a raw, old school, satanic and occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Black Unholy mass" which was released by Blasfemas Records.
A very dark synth orientated intro starts off the album before going into a heavier direction which also introduces high pitched black metal screams onto the recording. Most of the music is also heavily rooted in the 90's era while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats.
Dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the solos and leads also remain true to an old school direction. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the tremolo picking also giving the tracks more of a raw feeling when it is utilized as well as some ritualistic sounding spoken word parts also b eing added on the closing track.
On this recording Brood in Black remain true to the raw and old school style of satanic black metal that they have established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Brood in Black and if you are a fan of raw, old school, occult and satanic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sacrificed Upon The Altar Of Satan" "Rituals of Desecration" and "Black Unholy Mass". 8 out of 10.
