The Negative Bias are a band from Austria that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very atmospheric and cosmic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Tapeworm Pyramids" which was released by Vendetta Records.
Dark soundscapes along with some clean playing starts off the ep while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the music also showing an influence of death metal at times as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Clean vocals can also be heard in some parts of the recording and also gives the music more of an avant garde vibe along with the music also having its atmospheric moments. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as some clean playing also being used at times.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as some spoken word parts are also added on one of the songs and the ep closes with a cover of Dead Can Dance's "Anywhere Out Of The World". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover space, darkness, cosmic mysticism, death and creation themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from The Negative Bias and if you are a fan of atmospheric and cosmic black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Tapeworm Pyramids". 8 out of 10.
