Vetus are a solo project from Ohio that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of his self titled 2021 demo which was released by Blasfemas Records.
A very dark, heavy and lo-fi sound starts off the demo while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with the music also showing an influence of the mid 90's and early 2000's era and all of the drum beats are programmed.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The songs also add in a decent mixture of sow, mid paced and fast parts along with most of the riffing also being done on power chords as well as a later track also adding in a brief use of dark sounding melodies.
Vetus plays a style of black metal that is very raw, old school and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Darkness, Occultism and Black Metal themes.
In my opinion Vetus are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mark Of The Devil" and "Black Metal Hell". 8 out of 10.
