Germany's duo Tempers Creature have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a depressive style of pagan black metal with some elements of ambient and this is a review of their 2021 album "Exstinctio Luminis" which was released by Wolfmond Production.
A keyboard orientated intro starts off the album while also introducing elements of ambient onto the recording. Whispers and choir vocals can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier musical direction along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
Vocals are mostly depressive yet high pitched black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with some songs also adding in a small amount of clean playing.
At times the music also captures a medieval atmosphere along with some spoken word parts also being utilized briefly. The songs also have their lo-fi moments as well as one track also introducing clean pagan vocals onto the recording, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
Clean playing is also added on a couple of tracks as well as one Falkenbach and 2 Burzum covers also being added as songs onto the album along with the ambient elements also returning on some of the later songs and there are also a couple of instrumentals, as the album progresses a brief use of stringed instruments and acoustic guitars can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover Paganism, Nature, Germanic Mythology, Depression and Social Issues.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Tempers Creature and if you are a fan of depressive and pagan black metal with elements of ambient, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Morgengrauen" "Die Trauer der Nanna" and "Nimmer mehr". 8/5 out of 10.
