Vargstuhr are a solo project from Spain that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "Dystopia" which was released by Vacula Productions.
Raw tremolo picking starts off the album before going into a faster direction which also utilizes a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
The songs also add in a decent amount of 90's influences while synths are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music at times. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some melodic vocals also being utilized on a couple of songs and one track also introduces clean playing onto the recording.
When guitar solos and leads are brought into tracks they are also done in a very melodic style along with some death metal growls are also utilized in certain sections of the album as well as one song also introducing elements of thrash metal onto the recording, as the recording progresses a brief use of folk instruments, tribal and ethnic sounds can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover a dystopian future of a technocratic society in which an alienated human being has forgotten the fascination with nature and has succumbed to the myth of science.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vargstuhr and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "One Dimensional Man" "The Flames Swept The Earth" and "Utopia". 8 out of 10.
