Belenos are a band from France that plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Argoat" which will be released in September as a joint effort between Les Acteurs de L' Ombre and Northern Silence Productions.
Nature sounds start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction which also introduces high pitched black metal screams onto the recording. Growls and clean pagan singing can also be heard at times and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also utilize a decent amount of melody. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as the music also getting very atmospheric sounding at times.
Acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the music also adding in a decent amount of depressive elements as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses folk instruments can also be heard briefly, one track also introduces whispered vocals onto the recording. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and cover Celtic Heathenism, Nature and Sorrow themes.
In my opinion Belenos are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out t his recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Karvden" "Nozweler" "Duadenn" and "Arvestal". 8 out of 10.
