Muspellzheimr are a band from Denmark that recently had music reviewed in this zine and plays a very majestic and mystical form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 double album which consists of their 2015 album "Hyldest til Trolddommens Flamme" and their 2019 demo compilation which will be re-issued as a double album on August 12th, 2019 as a joint effort between Lunar Apparitions and Armor Fati.
Acoustic guitars and atmospheric sounding synths start off the compilation before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
Both the atmospheric and heavy parts are mixed together quite a bit throughout the compilation along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the riffs also utilizing a decent amount of melody.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style as well as all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. One track also introduces melodic chants and acoustic guitars into the music along with some of the tracks being very long and epic in length,
Some of the songs are also instrumentals along with some spoken word parts also being used briefly as the compilation progresses as well as the demo tracks bringing in more of a rawer style that is also very heavily rooted in the 90's Scandinavian era but keeping it modern at the same times. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Danish and cover mysteries of nature and the beyond.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding collection Muspellzheimr and if you are a fan of majestic and mystical black metal, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "II" "VIII" "Hyldest til Trolddommens Flamme Demo 4" and "Raukn Demo 2". 8 out of 10.
